Black Frontier Towns: Vernon Oklahoma

Vernon, Oklahoma a town founded in 1895 by Edward P. Mcabe. The Baccus Home and Dozier Mercantile Building are the only 2 original buildings remaining.  That's why it's so critical we save them. Despite segregation and discrimination, the residents of Vernon built successful businesses and institutions, including schools, and churches. The town shared the fear and grief experienced by all people of color after the devastating Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, also known as the destruction of Black Wall Street. But its legacy lives on as a testament to the resilience and strength of the black community in America.
